Gift idea Special
Gifts for Children
Books. You can never
have enough books. It’s good to establish a love of reading from
an early age. By reading to your children from a young age it
often develops into a love of reading for themselves as they get
older. One of my favourite books that I have for my children and
that I also buy for nieces, nephews and friends’ children, is:
"You
Are Special "
by Max Lucado. It is a wonderful book that teaches children not to
accept the 'labels' that others often put on us.
Here’s a great gift idea
for preschoolers! Make them a photo album. Children love to
look at pictures of themselves. It can be as simple as laminating
some favourite pictures, hole punching it on the side and slipping
on a couple of a key ring holders. You can do variations on it
like make an ABC album. Put stickers with symbols for each letter
on the photos.
A subscription to a
kids magazine. Highlights, Ranger Rick, Ladybug, Ask Magazine. . .
this is a gift that last all year! You’ll be remembered every
time the mail is delivered.
Here’s another great gift
idea: Craft supplies. Little things like glitter, feathers,
scraps of yarn, fabric, paper bags, tubes of glue, glitter glue.
It translates into hours of fun for the kids.
Fun bubble bath and foam
soap and bath colour. Check with their parents first to see if
they are allergic to anything in the soaps.
Give a box of dress-up
clothes, beads, and high heel shoes that you can collect from yard
sales and op shops. Kids love to dress up and they’ll have fun
with it for years!
Tuition paid for
extracurricular activities like gymnastics classes, music classes,
and swimming lessons. Kids really enjoy the activities, and it
helps parents cover costs to these fun activities
Buy tickets to a concert or
a theater show.
Savings Bonds. Buying your
child savings bonds every year will give them a nestegg for their
future. By the time they mature, he should be "mature"
enough to use them well - maybe for a down payment on a home
someday!!
Gifts for Families
Buy a zoo membership
good for one year for the family. This is a fantastic clutter-free
gift that families will love...it's convenient, it's educational,
and it's great exercise. Plus the family can use the gift over and
over again! Also look at season passes to aquariums, museums,
science centers, national parks, amusement parks, water slides,
etc.
Here’s a great family
activity - Geocaching. Geocaching is great fun. It is a world-wide
scavenger hunt where people hide small containers of trinkets. To
find the location of these containers, log on to www.geocaching.com.
Type in your zip or post code to find a treasure to hunt for. Buy
a GPS and use the GPS to find them, sign the log, and if you wish,
take a trinket and leave one behind. The site and the hiking are
FREE. You can buy a GPS at Amazon.com
Enjoy
